Counting Our Blessings

At church today a previous member of our Releif Society spoke.  She spoke about all the problems her and her family had had over the past year.  I knew of some of it but not all of it.  Then her husband got up to spoke and mentioned his wife had forgoten to mention a few other things.  Then their son spoke about faith in primary.  I was so touched by this family.  They weren't complaining about their lives they were just saying that bad things happen and that we must press forward.  It is hard to explain just how touched I was by their talks and their faith.  I looked over our past year and nothing comes even close to what they have gone through.  We have had our own struggles but compared to others it is so minor. My mother in law has her Gmail status as "I am so Thankful for my Blessings.".  She has has had a hard few months as well.  Sometimes we just need to slow down and count our blessings and remember what we do have and not focus on what we don't.  I know

Budget Cuts and Charter and Grad School

The charter school I wanted Jake in had their lottery earlier this week.  We are still waiting to hear the results. If he gets in then our family vacation is cancelled.  Jake will start school the same day we were planning on flying to Texas on our way to Mexico.  However, our school district is planning on cutting teachers as well as freezing saleries.  Part of me feels bad about the cuts.  The other part me thinks that is what I have been dealing with for almost two years.  We have had nearly three weeks of furlough hours over the past year.  Health and Welfare lost over 120 people a few weeks ago. Plus our last raise was years ago. My guesss is that they really won't be firing 26 teachers they just won't be replacing the ones that retire or quit although that is just my guess.  I know of other ways that I think they could cut but of course they never ask me.  :) Lee's brother and wife and three kids are coming to visit next week.  They won't be staying here but it

Cabins and Gardens

We had such a great weekend.  The kids had such a great time at the cabin and I was amazing at all the work my parents have done on it since last time I was there. I didn't want to come home.  It was so relaxing.  I got an idea for my thesis and have began researching it.  I think there should be enough resources to allow me to complete my thesis. The weather has been so nice and we have been able to get some plants planted in the front yard and get the garden ready for planting.  We still have more plants to get for the front yard but we made a good start.  I am planning on a herb garden.  The question remains where to plant.  We had both lunch and dinner outside today.  I love this weather. We have had extended family get bad news after bad news.  Of course it is all different family members but it makes me glad for what I have.  I have a tendency to allow bad news effect me way too much.  I have my own things to worry about it.  That may sound a bit selfish but I honestly th

Breaks

I am loving my break from school.  Life is so relaxing and I am getting so much done around the house.  I would be getting more gardening done but the weather has different ideas.  School starts back the last week of the month.  Not only that but, I will be starting my internship at the same time.  No doubt about it the next two semesters are going to be the hardest and the most stressful.  But the good thing is that in one month Lee is done with school.  As it quickly approaches the bad economy is becoming more and more of a reality.  We have started getting letters from student loan companies saying that they would like to be paid once he graduates.  I am taking the kids to my parents cabin on Wednesday.  Lee will be staying because of school.  I am looking forward to a relaxing three days.  No internet, no phone no worries.

Really Four Already?

Today is my adorable daughter's birthday.  We love her.  She is one of those little girls that loves dolls and dressing up but can play in the dirt with her brother. She loves books. She loves singing. She loves princesses. She is the smartest little girl EVER! I have pics from her birthday party but I will post them next week along with Easter pics.  We love that she got send to us when she did.  We love Victoria.
