Service and Money

It is only when you are in the service of your fellowmen you are in the service of God.  Yup I know that it isn't word for word the scripture but I got the point.  We have started doing service once a month as a family.  This weekend was full of service.  We gave food to Scouting for Food and we went and did another project this weekend.  It was good.  In December we will pull a few names off the tree and buy presents for kids.  I over budget for Christmas every year for this very reason.  I remember my mom doing the 12 days of Christmas for a family she felt was in need.  Not necessarily financial in need but emotionally and spiritually in need.  I went over our fiances tonight.  We have some debt but we also have quite a bit in savings.  We are about half way to my (1st) savings goal.  Once the debt is gone I would like to have five times what my goal now is.

Costly Good News

How come good news always seems to cost money?  For example a vacation costs money.  But one (me) could argue that it is worth it to get away and sit on the beach for a week with family.  Totally refreshing.  Another good news is a wedding.  An announcement of engagement is so exciting (most of the time) yet the wedding/reception could cost a small fortune.  How about babies?  Those little boogers can be costly getting here.  Especially if there are struggles getting pregnant.  Then you have to pay for the next 18 years more if there is college.  However to me all of these things are so worth it.  I love vacations.  I love being married.  I love my kids.  Another thing which has yet to happen is a new job for Lee.  If the job offer is not local it means moving.  Which will cost us money.  But it would be good news.  Especially if it means I can stop working full time. Acceptance to grad school was...

Money makes the world go 'round.

So after pulling credit reports last night and totalling student loans ( the number was more then scary) I have decided to start getting creative in making some extra money. So I am selling books on line.  Not sure how it will work but I am thinking it is worth a shot.   Not only am I hoping that it will make a few dollars but it will give me some book case space to buy new books.  I love books.  But we are running out of space. Maybe one day we will have a house big enough to have a study/library but this just isn't the time in our lives for that.   One of my goals for 2011 is to pay off Lee's medical bills as well as our credit cards. It is a huge undertaking for sure. In addition,  I have some other ideas for making money as well but I am not sure if I have the time I need to really give it a try.  So for now I am shipping off a box of textbooks and listing others online.  If it works I am going to start selling more.  If doe...
